Meet the real Liam Gallagher. 79 year old grandad and fearlessly wise artist, about to debut his first ever solo show
Over the past year respected and outspoken London performer Scottee and his grandfather Liam Gallagher have embarked on an incredible journey together. With the support of Stephen Fry, Loose Women and Age UK they have gone on a quest to transform beloved Gallagher senior from being an illiterate Irish Grandad, into an artist, fill a pop-up gallery with his work, and and above all tackle ageism.
Sentimental, and beautifully honest Liam’s debut solo show ‘No Need to Shout’ includes all of these things. Over 50 pieces of original work, in various mediums exploring Liam’s view on ageism, death, assisted suicide, selfies, the NHS, politics, immigration, racism and even the X-Factor. Held for 4 days in Liam’s pop up gallery space the Grandad’s Gallery situated in the heart of Camden where he, Scottee and his wife have lived for a combined 80 years!
Speaking in an article he wrote for the Kentish Towner , Scottee comments “Working so closely over the past few months has changed my relationship with him. No longer is he my Grandad, he’s my best friend. We’ve shared laughter and tears, pain and wisdom – the stories he has shared have turned the magical figure of a grandparent into a real human.” he goes on to say “Hopefully the project will encourage other older voices to pick up a pen and throw caution to the wind. You never know, it might encourage you to ring your nan a bit more, notice older people in our community or perhaps make you give up your seat on the bus without embarrassment.”
Alongside the show limited edition prints, framed artwork, and slogan t-shirts will be available, as well as a concept cafe by installation artists Hunt & Darton who have collaborated with Liam to create a menu inspired by his favourite things. Such as toasted fruit loaf and tea with two tea bags!
Over the 4 day run Grandad’s Gallery will host some special events including an elders private view with complimentary tea and cake – strictly for the over 60’s and an afternoon of
one on one performances with Liam himself! *booking essential
