Prêt-a-Portea The Berkeley Afternoon Tea
London Fashion week may be long over, but there’s still plenty of time to book a front row seat at the most fashionable afternoon tea in town
Get ready to eat the catwalk as The Berkeley present their edible spread of this season’s heavy hitters, at their brightly coloured Prêt-à-Portea.
Adding a slick high fashion twist to the traditionally stuffy English afternoon tea, Prêt-à-Portea at the Berkeley is your chance to indulge in the most coveted catwalk designs, served sky high over three tiers of bold Paul Smith china. Chic and fash forward the Berkeley packs in a cool yet understated crowd, including Italian editrix Anna Dello Russo who casually sat in a corner surrounded by bronzed Italians at one of my visits!!!
The current collection at Prêt-à-Portea takes inspiration from an array of distinguished designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Elie Saab, Jean Paul Gaultier along with two special editions paying homage to this year’s monumental Alexander McQueen exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Pastries include everything from an edible blueberry Victoria sponge handbag with cartoon eyes representing Anya Hindmarch’s Big Eye Collection, Philip Treacey’s intricate crimson butterfly headpiece for McQueen filled with rich chocolate mousse, to a classic shortbread ‘Alexa’ bikini and Alexander McQueen Armadillo high heel.
Generously replenished miniature savoury skewers, taster spoons, elegant canapés and tea sandwiches compliment the haute couture cakes along with the inviting atmosphere of the Caramel Room and of course The Berkeley’s unprecedented service. Making Prêt-à-Portea an afternoon of faultless style that cannot be missed!
